Bodog helps Haiti

January 15, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Uncategorized

Calvin Ayre sends a personal message to the online gambling industry to help out in Haiti:

“It’s a disaster in Haiti. I know they’ve had a tough go from Mother Nature recently, what with the hurricane and now this earthquake, but I cannot help but be disgusted with the ruling elite that have driven this country down like this while, no doubt, filling their own pockets. That being said, the innocents are, as always, the ones paying a horrendous price for this elite thievery and I think the global online gaming community has a duty to do something.”

“I have asked my Foundation (www.calvinayrefoundation.org) to send £10,000 to U.K. based Oxfam (www.oxfam.org.uk) to aid in their Haiti relief efforts.”

“But that’s not all. I want to personally challenge the rest of the online gaming industry to contribute to Oxfam’s Haiti relief efforts. My private foundation will match all donations made to Oxfam by an online gaming person totaling up to $1,000,000.”

“In a situation like this, each of us has a duty to help. Let’s do it!”

About Calvin Ayre

Calvin Ayre is the Founder of the Bodog online gaming and entertainment brand, which he developed and launched in 1994.

As the face of the Bodog brand, Ayre’s notoriety skyrocketed in the mid-2000s when online gaming’s popularity surged. Ayre’s public profile went mainstream when he was featured on the cover of Forbes Magazine’s 2006 annual “Billionaires” issue, as well as being named one of People Magazine’s “Hottest Bachelors” just months later, and one of Star Magazine’s “Most Eligible Billionaire Bachelors” in late 2007.

Ayre received a Bachelor of Sciences (BSc) in General Sciences from the University of Waterloo in 1984, where he played defense for the varsity hockey team. In 1989, Ayre was also awarded an MBA in Management Finance from City University in Seattle, Washington.

In 1994 Ayre sold everything he owned and, with just $10,000 to his name, assembled his team and launched the original Bodog.

Ayre retains an interest in the brand licensing organization BodogBrand.com, which owns and licenses the Bodog brand to various “brand licensees” in the entertainment sector.

In November, 2009, Ayre launched www.calvinayre.com, a “tabloid blog” or “tablog” targeted at the online gaming industry.

About The Calvin Ayre Foundation

Founded in 2005, the Calvin Ayre Foundation, headquartered in Antigua, is a private and independent foundation with a charter to do charitable work worldwide. With Ayre as Chairman, the Foundation has pledged millions of dollars and hundreds of hours in support of individuals, communities and charitable organizations throughout the world. Included among those charities are the Fisher House Foundation, the LA Lakers Youth Foundation, the Humane Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Animal Avengers Organization, and the Sean McCauley Hope Foundation for Pediatric Cancer. In 2007 the Calvin Ayre Foundation announced a program with the World Society for the Protection of Animals to combat the practice of farming Asian bears for their bile for the Traditional Chinese Medicine market.

The Calvin Ayre Foundation’s own initiatives include the Sponsor a School Project, which provides students living in underdeveloped nations opportunities for a quality education, and the Sponsor a Family Project, which provides financial support for the immediate families of sponsored students.

Internet Texas Hold Em

Making Money Consistently Playing Internet Texas Hold Em

So you want to make money playing poker? The popularity of Texas Hold ‘em poker has increased significantly over the years especially with the presence of big money tournaments aired on television. These attractions have created an interest from individuals who want to join the craze and believe that these players are making this kind of money on a consistent basis. But in reality, these players are just as vulnerable of winning this money as well as losing it. There are so many ups and downs in Hold ‘em that it really takes a skilled player to master the game and win money consistently.

I believe there are two essential tips that are crucial for success in Texas Hold ‘em on the internet. The first one and most importantly is money management. Playing for the right amount of money that makes you feel comfortable as well as giving you the drive to play your best is very important.  So many people attack the game of poker the wrong way by playing tournaments with too high of a buy in or cash games with blinds that are too big for their bankroll to survive. Over my years I have gone through increased amounts in my bankroll as well as very unfortunate decreases. Another common characteristic some people have and which I’d include in this topic is continually playing when continually losing. I have had discussions with many people about this and I will admit that I have done this mistake many times. The conclusion I have come up with is simple, when you are losing, don’t play. It can become very tough sometimes to stop playing when you have seen your bankroll much higher then what it is currently at. Avoid this as much as possible! If you are losing money at a consistent level, there is a reason for the losing. Stop playing and take a break.

My second tip for success is to pick which game suits your style. Over the years I have tried all different types of poker and game types. I have developed favourite tournaments and types that I don’t prefer. I have played the whole nine yards including cash games, sit and go’s, multi table tournaments, and heads up. Personally for me, I have developed a skill for 6-person turbo tournaments ranging in multiple types of buy-ins. I find that the turbo increase in blinds allows me to become more of an aggressor which benefits my style of play. I feel confident and comfortable and usually win consistent money playing them.

I have played poker for many years and am confident enough to say I do understand a fair amount of poker knowledge and strategy. On the other hand, I admit confidently that I still have lots to learn about Hold ‘em. The fact that there are so many ways of winning and so much information to learn, it is the reason why I have fallen in love with this game.  This leads into the most important advice I’d give to someone who wants to begin playing. This would be to keep an open mind. This game is too complex and the strategy involved can be so detailed that it is essential to retrieve and incorporate as much information as possible. When there is no defined way of playing Hold ‘em, a stubborn and one-way approach to the game is the first step to failure. Personally for me, I understand that this game has been around much longer then myself and that taking advice from players who have had experience playing this game is very beneficial and will contribute to my overall success.
